　　中国的农历新年是一个非常重要的节日。这是一个欢乐的时刻并且给我们大家提供了一个机会来庆祝，致意华社在新西兰发挥的重要性和对新西兰经济、社会和文化环境的丰富性所做的贡献。
　　自19世纪的淘金时期，华社一直是新西兰生活的一部分。
　　在过去的一百年中，工党始终引领新西兰并致力于建立有利于中新双方人民一个更强大、更繁荣、更和谐的关系。
　　工党政府1972年承认中华人民共和国并正式建交，承认中国的市场经济地位，并商定和签署了中国和西方国家之间的第一个全面的自由贸易协定。
　　2002年，工党前总理海伦•克拉克(Helen Clark)正式就过往政府对华人社区征收种族歧视的人头税道歉。

    The Labour Party wishes our Chinese community Happy New Year all the very best in this wishes in this
year of the Rooster. I hope this year brings you all good health, happiness and prosperity.
    People born in the Year of the Rooster are said to be hardworking, resourceful, courageous and talented. For all of you born in that year, may 2017 be an especially good period for you.
    Chinese New Year is a time when all of us can join with the Chinese community in celebrating your
great culture and traditions.
It is also a chance for all New Zealanders to celebrate the role that the Chinese community plays in New Zealand and how it adds so much to our social and cultural environment.
    The Chinese community has been part of the fabric of New Zealand life since the gold rushes of the19th century.
For the past 100 years Labour has been at the forefront of forging closer links with China.
It was a Labour Government that fi rst recognised the People's Republic in 1972 and went on to sign a comprehensive Free Trade Agreement between China and a western country.
    In 2002 Labour's Helen Clark broke new ground with an apology to the Chinese community in New Zealand for a poll tax and other racial discriminatory policies in the past.
There has been a long and rich relationship between Labour and the Chinese community and we wish you all the best for another prosperous year.
