火山地区的部分徒步道将重新开放
上周三，汤加里罗山的Te Maari的火山口发生短暂喷发，高山步道自此便处於关闭状态，目前火山周边的3公里危险地带警告仍未取消。旅游业协会称，高山步道及北部环道部分开放後，在步道徒步的游客仍可到着名景点翡翠湖(Emerald Lake)观光。由於近期火山爆发，该地景观将更为壮观。
汤加里罗高山步道的交通和导游团体主席Stewart Barclay说：“今年夏天将是游览火山地区的极佳时期，游客不仅能欣赏天然优美的湖光山色还能体会不同寻常的火山景观。在世界上很少能有让游客可以近距离观看活火山的安全景区。”
环保部长Kate Wilkinson也向游客确认称，只要是在指定区域游览，火山不会对游客造成威胁。“游客可以安全使用重新开放的徒步道，并从这些地区欣赏国家公园的壮丽景色。”
